Job Description

As the TRT Coordinator, you will serve as the principal project manager facilitating all aspects of the West Coast Take Reduction Team process for NMFS. You will coordinate diverse stakeholder and agency engagement aimed at reducing whale entanglements and guiding the development and implementation of the West Coast Take Reduction Plan (Plan), as well as associated outreach, regulatory, and data activities. Key duties include: Coordinate TRT activities including scheduling, developing agendas, capturing meeting notes and summaries, and supporting logistics for team formation, planning, and implementation. Identify, evaluate, and make recommendations for potential TRT members representing a range of stakeholders. Facilitate communication and project tracking among NMFS scientists, TRT planning staff, and participants; manage and support material review for TRT meetings. Support and document the implementation of Plan actions and associated regulatory and non-regulatory measures, including drafting Federal Register notices, NEPA, and compliance materials. Collect, manage, analyze, and disseminate whale entanglement data in collaboration with the NMFS West Coast Stranding Program and external partners. Participate in and support Stakeholder Working Group meetings, scientific workshops, coordination meetings, and other multi-agency/multidisciplinary sessions. Engage with researchers, fishery managers, NGOs, and fishermen to refine data analyses and develop products to address the entanglement issue. Prepare and deliver periodic updates, meeting summaries, memoranda, monthly progress reports, and annual entanglement summaries in accordance with project deadlines and quality standards. Participate as requested in aerial survey or other field work supporting entanglement science and management.
