Staff Data Scientist

Automattic is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to serve as a technical leader within our globally distributed organization. The selected candidate will spearhead a centralized data science team, driving the creation and deployment of sophisticated data models and analyses. This team will collaborate closely with analysts and engineers integrated into our various business units, transforming data-driven insights into concrete strategies with significant impact. Key responsibilities include providing technical leadership, guiding the development of advanced data analysis algorithms and statistical models across business units, shaping the direction of data analytics, mentoring junior data scientists, collaborating with senior management, and communicating data-driven insights to non-technical stakeholders. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior data science role within a large tech company, expertise in statistical analysis and machine learning, proficiency in Python and data science libraries, and familiarity with distributed SQL query engines and big data technologies. An advanced degree and knowledge of domain-specific analytics are desirable.
