- Global Fishing Watch is strengthening its regional strategy in the Mediterranean, focused on core countries and data's role in biodiversity protection.
- GFW requires a clear understanding of MPA-related legal and policy frameworks, international agreements, and emerging challenges.
Objectives:
- The consultancy's objective is to produce an action-oriented analysis of MPAs and area-based conservation and fisheries management tools in the Mediterranean.
- Provide a synthesis of the legal and policy framework, integrating key international and regional agreements.
- Assess the current GFW biodiversity work in the Mediterranean and create a list of existing MPAs/OECMs for GFW priority countries.
Guidance and timeline:
- The consultant will hold meetings with the GFW EU-Mediterranean and related biodiversity teams.
- Refine the proposed outline and methodology in consultation with GFW teams.
- Hold two to four coordination meetings with GFW’s team during the course of the consultancy, as well as a final online seminar.
