Job Description

Reporting to the Shriners Children’s Vice President of Research, the Clinical Genomics Laboratory Director (CGLD) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/Certified Analytics Professional (CLIA/CAP) compliant high complexity laboratory operation with a focus on next generation sequencing (NGS). Initial priorities include development and implementation of a compliant end-to-end (sample to clinical report) workflow and establish a comprehensive quality management system to ensure that all clinical diagnostic and regulatory requirements by accrediting agencies are met. Strategic leadership responsibilities include engaging with health system leadership and clinical providers to develop and implement a comprehensive roadmap for establishing various clinical genomic tests including proactive testing for actionable findings as well as diagnostic testing for disorders relevant to the Shriners Children’s Health System. The responsibilities include providing technical and clinical direction to laboratory staff, developing and managing a quality management system, overseeing all aspects of clinical test development and validation, collaborating with clinical providers on identifying genetic testing needs, reviewing clinical genetic test results, identifying opportunities for technical process improvement, hiring and overseeing clinical testing staff and preparing budgets and strategic roadmaps.
