- Analyzes coded disease indexes, tumor conference minutes, staging forms, radiation reports, surgical reports, pathology reports, and autopsy reports to determine case eligibility.
- Examines and interprets cancer-specific data from the medical record and other sources for coding and data entry into a computerized cancer registry abstract.
- Collects patient follow-up and survival data from the medical record, follow-up correspondence with patient and/or physician, and any other applicable sources for coding and direct on-line data entry into the computerized cancer registry database.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, or related field required; Registered Health Information certification (RHIT, RHIA) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification required.
- Prefer computer skills including: cancer registry databases and networked hospital information systems, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Internet
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate effectively within a team and with physicians and allied healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s preferred.
- Working knowledge of coding systems and manuals
- Working knowledge of the Cancer Program Standards of American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
