Staff Data Engineer

The Role:

• Provide senior onshore technical leadership for the data engineering team, owning a defined slice of the Databricks data platform.
• Serve as a technical counterpart to the Principal Data Platform Engineer, driving architectural judgment and independent problem-solving.
• Act as a hands-on engineer focused on building production pipelines and serving as the onshore escalation point.

Business Problems You'll Solve:

• Implement data pipelines that serve multiple product lines with distinct data requirements, ensuring reliable and scheduled delivery.
• Lead pipeline implementation for migrating multi-terabyte datasets from legacy systems to a unified Databricks lakehouse.
• Provide the senior judgment layer the current nearshore team cannot, owning problems end-to-end and mentoring engineers.
• Bridge the gap between product teams and data infrastructure to translate business requirements into data solutions.

Required Experience:

• Core skills in SQL, Python, and PySpark for production pipeline implementation and performance optimization.
• 5+ years of data engineering experience with Databricks (Delta Lake, Workflows) and the ability to own problems end-to-end.
• Strong data modeling skills across structured and semi-structured data sources and experience building ETL/ELT pipelines at scale.
• AWS experience and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred) and data governance patterns.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, independent architectural judgment, and strong communication for stakeholder engagement.
