Salary range

$106,111–$122,028/yr

Responsibilities:

  • Closely coordinate with management, inspectors, and other specialized units within the Department and other city agencies regarding safety of compromised structures.
  • Respond to emergencies/incidents, as needed, 24/7.
  • Perform in depth review of structural plans and advising on engineering issues during the construction of large or small, technically complex projects.

Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License.
  • A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience.

The Department of Buildings' Forensic Engineering Unit ensures public safety within New York City's five boroughs. They respond to emergencies and referrals, addressing engineering and construction problems in compromised buildings and structures, as well as issues of egress, zoning, and occupancy.
