Staff Software Engineer - Backend

This role leads the evolution of our massive real-time messaging platform, powering billions of messages across SMS, Email, WhatsApp, and more. You’ll improve core delivery, retry, and storage systems across Node.js, Firestore, Mongo, and ClickHouse, while shaping backend architecture and patterns. Operating at large scale — 50+ workloads, thousands of pods, and event-driven pipelines — you’ll make our infrastructure easier to operate, safer to change, and built to scale. You will write clean, observable, and testable backend code, architect and scale backend systems for message ingestion, delivery, storage, and retries. Lead re-architecture efforts to improve reliability, latency, and observability. Drive infra decisions across GCP, Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, and custom queueing models. Mentor engineers in distributed systems, data models, and real-world scale, and own incidents, root cause, recovery, and prevention.
