The Role:
- Build and improve backend services in Go across Rare Candy's collector-facing product.
- Develop and maintain GraphQL APIs, collaborating with mobile and frontend engineers.
- Design and evolve relational data models, write efficient SQL, and implement business logic.
What Success Looks Like:
- First 30 days: get backend running locally, understand core services, ship first fixes or features.
- By day 90: regularly ship backend work, take well-scoped features, implement cleanly, test, and deploy.
- By end of year one: become a reliable backend contributor, strengthen skills in Go and database design.
What You'll Do:
- Build and improve backend services in Go across Rare Candy's collector-facing product.
- Develop and maintain GraphQL APIs and third-party integrations.
- Write automated tests, investigate production bugs, and improve reliability.
A Day in Your Life at Rare Candy:
- Start morning reviewing feedback on shipped features and checking for backend errors.
- Mid-morning, pair with another engineer on a new API for a collection feature.
- After lunch, implement service logic in Go, tighten queries, and write tests.
- Later, participate in product discussions, bringing backend perspective and TCG fluency.
- Close the day by opening a PR with clear summary, test coverage, and rollout notes.
