Staff Software Engineer, Strategic Customer Engagements

This role involves leading the development of transformative solutions for Planet's most strategic accounts, starting with Global Defense and Security customers. Unlike traditional engineering roles, the engineer will be embedded with key partners, functioning as a technical leader and hands-on builder while collaborating with a team of engineers, translating ambiguity into high-impact software solutions. The staff software engineer will define, design, and build what is needed, often inventing new capabilities in the field that may later become core product features, enabling Planet to deliver on critical customer commitments while laying the groundwork for future market expansion. This individual contributor role requires problem-solving skills, from discovery to designing and deploying solutions, architecting full-stack software, engaging with customers, and providing technical leadership within the team. The role ensures measurable outcomes, supports pre-sales efforts, and will deliver commitments on time, understanding their direct impact on customer relationships and business objectives.
