Job Description
The Office of Labor Policy & Standards enforces the Cityβs worker protection laws, including the Paid Safe and Sick Leave Law, Fair Workweek scheduling laws that protect fast food and retail workers, and Delivery Worker Laws that protect app-based restaurant delivery workers classified as independent contractors. In OLPSβ large, citywide enforcement actions, teams of attorneys, data scientists, and investigators work together to obtain compensation owed to workers and improve employer compliance.
Responsibilities include:
- Handling a docket of complex cases, including high-impact investigations and litigation before the NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings and in state courts;
- Supervising 3-4 attorneys who handle litigation and investigations;
- Managing all aspects of litigation, including drafting and arguing motions, taking depositions, preparing for and leading trials and mediations, and negotiating settlements;
- Leading special enforcement initiatives related to new OLPS laws, vulnerable worker populations, or high-violation industries;
- Contributing to development of internal enforcement policies and procedures;
- Handling certain administrative and personnel matters for direct reports.
