- Work directly with commercial fishermen, vessel operators, and gear manufacturers to create, modify, and test fishing gear configurations.
- Participate in field studies and at-sea/dockside evaluations of gear-based solutions for reducing bycatch.
- Support law enforcement inspection, compliance monitoring, and entanglement gear analysis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, fisheries biology, marine biology, or related field; relevant degree may be substituted by two years of experience.
- Hands-on knowledge of commercial fishing gear and operations, especially in Northwest Atlantic fisheries.
- Experience working directly with fishermen, port communities, and fisheries field programs; ability to communicate credibly with diverse stakeholders.
