About the role:

  • Senior Engineering Managers at GitLab own outcomes for a defined engineering domain, build and grow the team, and operate with significant autonomy.
  • This role focuses on driving non-linear productivity by building a small, hand-picked team to find and fix the highest-leverage friction points in GitLab's SDLC.
  • You will personally recruit 4 exceptional engineers, define how they work, and drive them through a root-cause, shift-left approach measured in system-level metrics.

What you'll do:

  • Define and refine the operating model for the non-linear productivity pilot, prioritizing friction points across the SDLC.
  • Lead hands-on investigation to baseline system metrics and diagnose high-leverage friction points.
  • Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and report metric movement honestly to leadership.

What you'll bring:

  • Track record leading small, high-autonomy engineering teams in developer productivity, CI/CD, or platform reliability.
  • Deep comfort with CI/CD and build systems, with root-cause instinct and metrics-driven accountability.
  • Strong executive-level communication and experience with defined-window pilot initiatives.
