Job Description
The Scientific Programmer will design and code software tools to support NBS workflows. Duties include automating data ingestion, deconfliction, and QC processes. You'll implement scripts and APIs for managing bathymetric data and collaborate with NOAA scientists and GIS specialists on tool development. It is important to document code and contribute to operational playbooks.
The Ideal Scientific Programmer will have a BS/BA in Computer Science, Oceanography, or related technical field and 6+ years of related experience. Proficiency in programming languages (Python, JavaScript; Fortran/Matlab a plus) is needed, as well as experience with geospatial data formats (netCDF, HDF5, BAG, shapefiles). Familiarity with NOAA hydrographic standards preferred. Strong problem-solving and documentation skills are a must.
