Coding Specialist

The Coding Specialist follows coding guidelines in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding conventions to assign diagnoses and procedure codes for Fred Hutch outpatient facility services. A high level of analytical skill is needed to code and abstract the legal medical record to support appropriate reimbursement, documentation improvement, clinical effectiveness, outcome studies, and research to meet regulatory accreditation requirements for state and federal reporting and other external reporting. This position offers a combination of remote and on-site coding. Responsibilities include understanding and applying correct coding, regulatory and compliance guidelines, APCs, ICD10, CPT, E&M, procedure codes and modifiers, and applying documentation guidelines. They must maintain 95% coding accuracy while meeting department productivity standards and participate in staff discussions to provide valuable input to the team.
