Fuel Design & Development:

  • Support the design of the reactor’s fuel system including fuel form, geometry, cladding, and assembly configurations.
  • Evaluate fuel thermal and mechanical behavior under various conditions.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to obtain design data and fabrication constraints.

Fuel Performance Modeling:

  • Build and run fuel performance models using BISON, FRAPCON, or similar tools.
  • Analyze fuel burnup, depletion, and end-of-life behavior.
  • Validate and benchmark models using available data for V&V efforts.

Materials & Testing:

  • Characterize cladding and structural materials under irradiation.
  • Assist with test plans for fuel samples and post-irradiation examination.
  • Interface with suppliers and national labs to gather data for safety analysis.
