Staff Software Engineer, Affirm Bank

Technical Leadership:

• Define the architecture and technical strategy for the bank's systems, making decisions that others build against.
• Own the most complex problems, including the Bank ↔ Affirm Inc integration boundary, and ensure they are well-defined with clear failure domains.

AI-First Engineering:

• Treat AI tools and agentic workflows as a core capability for code, design review, and operations.
• Push the team to leverage AI to deliver more with a small headcount, setting a high bar for productivity.

Regulatory and Vendor Management:

• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Finance to ensure compliance is built into the product from day one.
• Lead vendor selection and oversight for third-party platforms, ensuring they meet operational and audit standards.

Operational Excellence:

• Set the reliability, observability, and incident-response practices to keep the bank standalone-operable and audit-ready.
• Communicate technical strategy clearly to executives, the board, and examiners, and mentor engineers to raise the bar.
