Job Description
The intern for State Policies will contribute to MPPF’s mission of reforming cannabis laws and educating cannabis regulators, consumers, and state legislators. Under the supervision of the Director of State Policies, the intern’s primary functions will include research and writing related to cannabis policy, and monitoring legislation. This position requires real-time outreach and research with limited oversight.
Responsibilities include monitoring legislation in assigned states and identifying bills MPPF should support or oppose. Performing cannabis policy research and writing, including drafting emails to MPPF’s supporters in assigned states, form letters to lawmakers, informational handouts, web content, and written testimony on key bills. Researching legislators’ stances on cannabis policies in certain states and updating a spreadsheet of their stances. Performing other advocacy-related tasks, which may include testifying remotely at legislative hearings, scheduling legislative meetings, mobilizing grassroots allies, and coordinating with allied organizations to support or oppose legislation.
