Engineering Manager (Platform)

About the Team:

• The Platform team owns the infrastructure powering all of OpenRouter, enabling the routing and serving of millions of LLM requests daily.
• You'll join a small, fast-paced team with a large surface area, working hands-on in the code and systems while managing engineers.
• This role reports to the CEO and collaborates closely with engineering leadership on priorities, trade-offs, and the platform's scaling trajectory.

Core Responsibilities:

• Hire, manage, and mentor engineers, creating a strong, high-retention team that drives platform development.
• Make crucial technical decisions across edge, cloud, and data infrastructure, balancing performance, reliability, and cost at scale.
• Collaborate on capacity planning, reliability, and project ownership for systems handling production traffic.

Candidate Profile:

• You have 4+ years of engineering management experience, including scaling a team during rapid growth, and a strong technical foundation in infrastructure or platform engineering.
• You are hands-on, pragmatic, and thrive in a lean environment, optimizing for speed, clarity, and operational performance.
• You bring high agency, clear communication, and the ability to recruit talent, with bonus points for experience in AI infrastructure or modern cloud stacks.
