Principal Applied AI Engineer

The Team:

• Solve real-world problems directly shaping how Appian delivers its AI-Powered Process Automation platform globally.

The Opportunity:

• Serve as the technical linchpin for applied AI, bringing deep expertise in designing and operating production LLM systems.
• Drive the design and delivery of high-complexity AI systems including code generation, agents, retrieval, and structured generation.
• Set the technical bar for the team and lead other engineers towards solutions of real complexity.

What You'll Contribute:

• Architect, build, and optimize high-performance production LLM systems while maintaining a strong personal technical presence.
• Spearhead strategic technological changes and champion code refactoring efforts.
• Use AI coding tools fluently as a force multiplier, generate, review, and evaluate AI-assisted code.
• Drive technical story breakdowns, acceptance criteria, and architectural design across complex, multi-tier AI-powered applications.
• Optimize performance and scale by managing availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency.
