Overview:
- GitLab.com is being rebuilt as a horizontally scalable cluster using Organizations and Cells to enable a 100x increase in headroom without customers ever seeing a cell.
- This charter turns data residency, regional control, and in-region AI compute into product capabilities rather than deployment exceptions.
What you will do:
- Deliver the Cells and Organizations roadmap including cell provisioning, lifecycle, routing and topology, and data migration tooling.
- Execute cohort-based migration of customer Organizations onto cells with zero data loss, verified rollback, and no downtime.
- Build and run the engineering organization, hiring and developing managers and senior ICs across several teams.
How success is measured:
- Customer Organizations running on cells in production, migrated cleanly and on schedule.
- Availability and latency improvements attributable to isolation and load distribution.
- Infrastructure cost per unit of capacity trending down as the footprint grows.
