Staff Software Engineer - Ingestion Platform

About the Role:

• As a Staff Engineer, you will lead the development and evolution of Reddit's Ingestion Platform, designing reliable software for distributed data movement.
• You will own the architecture of the platform's control plane and data plane, including pipeline APIs, controllers, connectors, and sink integrations.
• You will expand the platform beyond Kafka-to-BigQuery, delivering production-ready paths to S3/GCS and Apache Iceberg.

What You'll Do:

• Build high-quality connectors and abstractions for Kafka, BigQuery, S3, GCS, Iceberg, Flink, and other data stores, keeping the platform modular and extensible.
• Improve self-service experiences through clear APIs, safe defaults, automated provisioning, documentation, and actionable observability.
• Lead migrations from legacy systems, partnering with teams like Ads Data Platform and ML Indexing to ensure safe, incremental, low-touch transitions.

Who You Might Be:

• 10+ years of hands-on experience building internet-scale distributed systems or data infrastructure.
• Strong software development experience in Go, Python, Java, or Scala, with deep experience in high-throughput, fault-tolerant pipelines.
• Expertise in data movement systems like Kafka, BigQuery, S3, GCS, Apache Iceberg, Flink, and familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud-native concepts.
