Senior Machine Learning Engineer - Image Design Generation

About the Team/Group:

• The Generative Experience group is part of Canva's Generative AI supergroup, focused on empowering the world to design by developing AI that iteratively creates every type of design.
• The Image Design Generation team specifically handles models and infrastructure behind image generation, from underlying methods to tiered user experiences.

About the role:

• As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you'll build and improve models and systems for image generation across the full lifecycle.
• You'll work at the intersection of research and productionisation, turning novel techniques into shipped, user-facing capability at a fast, iterative pace.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop, and deploy models and systems, collaborating with ML, backend, frontend, and product teams.
• Investigate and resolve quality, latency, or reliability issues in the generation serving path.
• Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders and share knowledge across the team.

What we're looking for:

• Hands-on experience building and shipping ML models in production, comfortable across the stack from model development to serving infrastructure.
• Highly autonomous, able to take a project from idea to shipped with minimal guidance, thriving in a fast-paced iterative environment.
