Staff Software Engineer - OpenTelemetry Python instrumentation

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Develop improvements to the OpenTelemetry Python SDK and instrumentation libraries, with a strong focus on AI applications and agent workflows.
• Collaborate in open-source communities, contributing to evolving conventions for generative AI while ensuring care for sensitive data and metric cardinality.
• Build Python instrumentation for AI agents, including across asynchronous code, and improve SDK performance through profiling and benchmarks.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

• 8+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Python and debugging production software, language internals, and asynchronous code.
• Interest in AI applications and agent systems, with experience in open-source communities and familiarity with observability tooling like Grafana, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
• Ability to own projects from ambiguous problem through release, and partner with GTM, Product and Support teams to turn customer feedback into practical guidance.
