Deputy Managing Editor, Daily Desk

The Athletic is seeking a Deputy Managing Editor for the Daily Desk to strengthen the quality of everyday reporting and capitalize on opportunities for compelling journalism. The role involves strong news judgment, coordination skills, and deft editing. Duties will involve both editing and writing, with significant collaboration with reporters and editors. Responsibilities include serving as a lead editor for the daily news report, editing and publishing stories, launching coverage around breaking news, and managing staff. The role requires 8+ years of experience editing news stories, strong copy editing, and management experience. The job is remote, for candidates located in either the United States or Canada and will regularly require work during nights and weekends, in line with the newsroom’s needs and the sports calendar.
