Backend Engineer, AI Engineering: Duo Chat

An overview of this role:

• As a Backend Engineer on the Chat Engine team, you'll build the engine behind GitLab Duo Chat, working primarily in Python.
• You'll own scoped parts of the system, ship features with minimal guidance, and collaborate with senior engineers.

What you'll do:

• Develop secure, well-tested features and improvements for GitLab Duo Chat.
• Implement and extend agentic flows in Python using LangGraph and the Duo Workflow Service.
• Collaborate with Product Management, UX, and Frontend teams to improve product quality.

What you'll bring:

• Professional experience with Python and Ruby on Rails.
• Interest in building on top of large language models (LLMs).
• Security-minded development approach and clear written communication.
