Support coding efforts for documented encounters, research and compliance, focusing on Orthopedic surgical coding. Assist in auditing documents and identifying billing issues. Medical documentation for appropriate coding and documentation. Respond to queries from relevant parties. Support identification of discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues.

Under the supervision of the HIS IP Coding Reimbursement/Coordination, the Coder III is responsible for reviewing the medical record in its entirety, apply coding guidelines and regulations and assign ICD-CM and/or PCS and CPT diagnoses and procedures codes accurately and timely. Consistently meet/exceed turnaround times and quality expectations.

Coder III demonstrates proficiency in coding high acuity inpatient accounts and/or coding of technical outpatient accounts including Observation, Radiation Oncology, Chemotherapy Infusion, Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiologyor Interventional Radiology and Surgery to support Revenue Cycle goals for timely billing.Utilizes International Classification of Disease (ICD-10-CM and PCS), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and other coding references to ensure accurate coding.

Accurately assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient facility and professional services. Work may involve areas such as Laboratory, Radiology, and Dental services. Codes inpatient discharge records with correct and optimal DRG assignment. Researches and resolves coding edit failures as assigned.
